- PLEASE minimize absences when possible. They require extra effort for all of us and disrupt learning, classroom community and the general flow of a day, week and year. If you have a special family travel experience you will need to fill out a form you can get in the office.
- I follow the school and district wellness policy strictly. Please don’t send ill kids. When fevers are reduced because of fever meds, children are still contagious and kids are usually miserable. Please respect everyone in the classroom and keep kids at home if needed and we will look forward to their healthy return!
- Children will have weekly homework as well as the expectation that they read at home for 20 minutes daily. We will have 3 goals through the school year to read 1,000 minutes in 10 weeks.
- Basic school discipline rules of be responsible, be respectful and be safe will be implemented.
- Basic positive discipline expectations are set the first week of school. Students help determine what good behavior looks like with teacher guidance and mutual input. I will endeavor to reinforce positive behavior in a variety of ways with rewards, incentives, and steady positive acknowledgement.

Grading Procedure
- To be on grade level students must demonstrate knowledge for all information that has been taught, with minimal assistance. I use basic grade-level assessment tools aligned with the Language Arts Wonders Program and Eureka Math, reading level testing, spelling tests, homework assignments, classroom participation, assignment-specific rubrics (which you will receive) to guide report card information.
- Spelling tests, language arts, and math assessments take place on Friday mornings. Students assist in grading weekly assessments and are guided and encouraged to offer positive, constructive input to their classmates on occasional assignments.
- Homework packets go home on Monday and are due following Monday. If you have it completed earlier your child is welcome to turn it in any time during that week. Turning homework in ON TIME is expected and sets the foundation for good study habits. I track homework and assignments and will post them on the “Gradebook” available online.
- Students are allowed by district policy to make up work for excused absences (illness, religious observance, extracurricular assignments, and family activities) and this will be determined on an as-need basis.
- Report cards will be sent home three times a year.
